Madeira Tecnopolo
Madeira Tecnopolo (MT) is a private company mainly owned by the public sector. Its main shareholders are the Regional Government of Madeira, the University of Madeira and the Young Entrepreneurs Association. Madeira Tecnopolo serves as a platform to stimulate and lever local development up in a few selected areas like the Information Society, Sustainable Development/Environment and Innovation. MT defines itself as a centre of competences, in a physical space that is in constant update, pursuing the objective of taking advantage and later on transmitting the advantages that occur from the relations established:
Within the space of Madeira Tecnopolo – Entities and companies connected to the Offer and Demand, Research and New Technologies are present in the park.
Of Madeira Tecnopolo with the Autonomous Region of Madeira - Madeira Tecnopolo has been establishing partnerships and protocols with several regional entities linked to Research & Development (R&D), public or private that resulted in an joint work concerning several initiatives.
The institutional relationships above mentioned result that, within the area of the Park, a great number of types of people flow and interact: students, entrepreneurs, researchers, be them regional, national and even international, which causes a naturally dynamic interaction between several people and several entities.
Strategic Objectives of Madeira Tecnopolo
Madeira Tecnopolo assumes as priority two business areas:

In this perspective and including these two domains, strategic intervention areas are:

▪ Information Society and New Information and Communication Technologies (NICT)

▪ Environment
▪ Education / Formation / e-Learning
Role in IRIS-Europe projectMadeira Tecnopolo (MT) has not only contributed to the case study and the regional analyses work – covering the archipelago of Madeira (PT) and Canary Islands (ES) - but has also coordinated the dissemination activities of IRIS-Europe (Component 5) proving its important involvement. Thanks to its experience in tourism, education, innovation and sustainable economic development based on ICT, MT enhanced the findings of IRIS-Europe in these sectors.
«The importance of the participation of MT in IRIS-Europe can by seen twofold. One one hand, the reasons linked to the specific objectives of this project and, on the other hand, for more strategic objectives, like strengthening existing relationships and establishing new ones (bearing also in mind that development and implementation of projects is one of our main priorities as a business activity).
Regarding the specific objectives of IRIS-Europe project, I would stress three points:
1. The importance of having access to nearly 100 case studies of selected project within the four (+ one) regions involved
2. The production of a sectorial / benchmarking analysis of the different regions involved
3. Our participation in the implementation (although limited), testing and usage of the Self Assessment Tool (SAT). We see a great potential in this tool and we expect to be able to fully assess its capabilities, eventually in another project
Regarding the strategic objectives, I would like to emphasise the following points:
1. To participate in this project provided a very good background regarding the possibility of participating in a new project under the new INTERREG IVC programme as main themes under IRIS-Europe are also main themes under INTERREG IVC.
2. Our active participation in IRIS-Europe project enlarged our base of good contacts with more regions of Europe with who we cooperated in the present and established trust and confidence for future cooperation
In my point of view those were the most significant aspects and benefits of our participation in this project.»
