Research activities
HEC School of Management is committed to develop knowledge and techniques in management. Active involvement of HEC professors in research guarantees that courses remain abreast of latest findings in management science. A vibrant research environment also contributes to make HEC a place of choice for the best professors in management. Finally, research excellence contributes to HEC international reputation.
As a sign of this commitment, HEC has witnessed a quick growth in international publications, which now represent about two-third of all publications made by the school researchers. Research conducted by HEC faculty is regularly published in the most prestigious and selective journals in management. These journals select articles, not only for path-breaking findings, but also for their ability to influence management practices.
HEC professors are also actively involved in other facets of research dissemination. For instance, they are regularly invited to present their research in international conferences or in seminars. They also actively participate to the evaluation of articles submitted to international journals in Management (either as referees or as member of editorial boards). Finally they supervise HEC doctoral students.
HEC has been and is still partner of the following projects funded by the European Commission: Creation of the Central Asian Management Journal, TACIS Support of the Post Privatisation Process in Georgia, Georgia, TACIS Efficiency of Financial markets, Training Management Research, Centre of Management, Creation of a MBA, Lithuania, PHARE, Mobility of Students, Erasmus, IST project UNIVERSAL (e-learning) and VIVA (SMEs), TERREGOV (E-government), QUALEG (public policy evaluation).
In 2003, HEC decided to create four research laboratories on a multidisciplinary basis. The creation of the HEC EOLE laboratory observatory for e-practices has been targeted on e-governance organisational and managerial consequences for administration and private organisation as the central research questions. The HEC EOLE laboratory ambition is to develop new research methodologies and new tools to evaluate public policy.
Role in IRIS-Europe projectIn the IRIS-Europe project, HEC has coordinated the component 4, dedicated to the development and implementation of a computer-aided project transfer system named SAT (Self-Assessment Tool) from one region to another supporting in this way regional development. HEC has been given this responsibility due to its expertise in organisation management and economic development and its experience in developing Self Assessment Tools (HEC developed such instrument for companies in a previous European project).
HEC has also participated to the various dimensions of the project (case study methodology, dissemination effort and so on).
“HEC has frequently been involved in European funded IST research programme. This project, more operational, was very interesting both in regard of the field tackled and the direct contact with successful innovative projects.
IRIS-Europe project gave the EOLE research laboratory the opportunity to consider further developments for its tool and its researches given the numerous possibilities that the issue of “project transfer” under means. Secondly, to participate in such project and to use its theoretical model in a concrete context to understand the hidden key success factors brought a lot of improvement embedded in the SAT.
Given the success of IRIS-Europe project, we expect to go on with the project development.”
